Rehearsal Diary: Week Five
It really is amazing to see how it all comes together and how we are all up for standing in when necessary. If you missed last weeks post, click here!
Sian is warming us up a treat, inspiring music and all. It did however turn into a karaoke session as “The Scientist” by Coldplay came on towards the end. As we contorted our limbs and stretched, we all sang along…”Nobody said, it was easy…” No truer words have been uttered, as we all aimed to touch the floor…with flat hands. I’m sweating just thinking about it.
This week saw lot’s of fab moments: Laura, Emma and myself stood in for what will be a giant wooden rabbit.
I think we did a good job and took our role seriously 🙂
One of my favourite moments came when Patrick, (French taunter) was really going for it, his accent is fab! At the end he pursed his lips together and blew…alot. He suddenly stopped and said, in a very british voice: “Oh! I do think I’ve over raspberried!”
Cue cast ,chuckling and laughing.
I have been taking my note-book to rehearsals and letting everyone write in it…or in Matt’s case drawing pictures! Which I will take photo’s of at some point. For now though here is Bec’s words of the day; “I get all the best show nicknames, a cast member has just greeted me with “hello armpits!” If you want to know why…book tickets lol 🙂
Our Laker girls are superb and wow can they dance! During the Can- Can section of ‘Run Away’ Joe (Lancelot) almost got caught by Lotty’s super high kick.
Another fab moment came courtesy of James (King Arthur), I think this really shows the thought process behind the characters 🙂
James: Is it a Canter, a trot or a gallop? ( James looks at Ryan (Patsy) who looks down at his coconuts and shrugs) A big discussion on cantering and trotting ensues and how they look different.
James: Well what was I doing? I mean, is there ever a gallop?
Alex: No, they never gallop!
We all chuckle and smile.
James : Well, nobody look at me!
More giggles before the scene starts again…with a trot!
Meet the Cast!
Up first this week, is the gorgeous Laura Davies!
Mad cow productions holds a very special place in my heart. As a child, I was lucky enough to have got the “stage bug” from my time with Lisa and Alex at Stage coach and treasure the childhood memories that I have.
I trained professionally at East 15 and after having my 2 children decided something was missing!! So I approached Alex and was welcomed with open arms into the herd.
I loved being part of ‘Kiss me Kate’ and ‘Crazy for You’ It really pushed me in terms of dancing, but I adored every minute of it. I then had the opportunity after being inducted back into the world of theatre, to play Reno Sweeney in ‘Anything Goes’ for TADLOP. Everyone at Madcow’s were extremely supportive and made me realise how much being on the stage means to me!
When it was announced that they had the rights to Spamalot, I had to come back… What can I say! Growing up in the 80’s I am proud to say that I was a “Monty Python geek” and I can’t think of a more wonderful combination, my fabulous mad cow friends and Monty Python! This show is a laugh a minute and what Alex, Lisa and Chris have done with it is something very special, every audience member is in for a treat!
Next up is the… Fantastic James Ashfield, our very own King Arthur!
I first came to Mad Cow last year and was lucky enough to play Edna in Hairspray. I never realised until I portrayed her how MUCH I was going to love getting a dress on. I still have my sparkly gold high heels in my cupboard, which I occasionally do the house work in.
I am THRILLED to be still wearing gold shoes with the addition of a gold crown this year, (maybe some nice gold pants too) for the role of Arthur king of the Britons. A role I am loving SO much I have named my new cat Arthur. It’s a fantastically fun show that has something for everyone, (except for stuffed olives I don’t believe we have any of those) and there is a fantastic company spirit in Mad Cow that makes every rehearsal such fun.
I propose that next year we do a show that involves stuffed olives. I like those!
The Amazing Emma Burrows !
I joined mcp three years ago, but only took to the stage with them to play the devil Daria – who was mostly a dead body in stage…. I’ve enjoyed parts such as Nancy in Oliver and Calamity in Calamity Jane in recent years – so being part of the ensemble has been a different experience for me. Spamalot seemed like fun, so I decided to have a go!
The cast at mcp is amazing and I’ve really enjoyed working with them all. It’s difficult being in the ensemble – harder than being a principle bizarrely! More varied and slightly bonkers. I’m loving being the dancing nun with Harry as my priest! We intend to steal the show 😀
And last but not least… The Stunning, Lotty Holder!
Hi, I’m Lotty and I play a Laker Girl in the wonderful Spamalot!
This role has been so much fun as its so versatile with fantastic costumes and props (which reminded me of a mermaid so double fantastic!) The opportunity to learn and perform many different styles of dance in one show is unique and I’m so happy to be part of the Mad Cow family which allows me to work with such wonderful people! So get your tickets now and I hope you enjoy the show!
