Hello all!

I hope you are well and ready for some more Flash Fiction. As always, we are given our photo prompt by our wonderful Friday Fictioneer leader, Rochelle . The rules are to write a story in 100 words, using the photo prompt as inspiration. :) I’m trying something a bit different this week, this story is happening at the same time as Waiting For You .

So here is my attempt for this week. I hope you enjoy it.

I’ll Be Waiting.

My hands shake.

Words fail.

I’m handcuffed to the bed in bay three.

I can hear what they’re saying.

They all know what I did.

The curtains ruffle in bay two next to me, someone’s crying.

“My Mia…how can she be dead! Someone tell me how!”

The cries grow louder.

Because of me.

“Stand clear.”

That came from bay four.

Please no!

“Time of death…Chris Jones…parents on their way…”

My heart stutters. Can’t catch my breath.

Monitors spring to life.

A dark figure appears at my side, ignored by all the nurses.

“Who… are…you?”

“Mia’s Grandad.”

“I’m…so..sorry..”

“I’ll be waiting for you.”

Waiting For You.

I fidget on the blue metal seats, designed for discomfort.

A middle-aged couple rush through the doors and straight to the desk.

“Mum?”

She’s crying as they are led away.

I follow and watch as they disappear through the pale green curtains of bay two.

‘Are you ok?’

Startled, I stepped back.

Faded grey eyes stare up at me, as I took in her white curled hair and small features. She smiled at me.

‘I’m just waiting.’

She nods, “I know.”

There’s a burst of activity in bay four.

‘Stand clear.’ A deep voice hollered.

My boyfriend steps through the curtains of bay four.

“Chris!”

“Mia!”

He sweeps me into his arms.

“I thought I’d lost you…the crash, I’m so sorry.”

“It wasn’t your fault.”I glance towards bay three as Chris tenses in my arms.

“Grandma?”

That can’t be right, he’d said she was…

The old woman walks towards us, her smile lighting up her wrinkled face,“now that you’re both here, shall we go?”

“But…”

“All will be explained when we get there Mia.” She takes Chris’s hand in hers.

“Where?”

My Grandad steps out of bay three. My mouth hangs open in shock.

I remember the last time I saw him…just before he died.

He winks at me,“you’ll see.”

A Beautiful Night

“It’s beautiful!”

His arms wrap around my body, shielding me from the cool night air.

“Just like you.” His heart beats faster as I peer up at him.

“Did you say that to them?”

“What?”

“The others.”

He tenses.

“Did they beg?”

His hand slides up to my neck.

“Yes,” I shudder, “and you will too.” His fingers curl, digging into my skin.

I swing my leg around his feet and push.

My teeth sink through his flesh and into the vein.

“Please…” He gurgles.

“This is my territory,” I drag his body to the water’s edge, “they belonged to me.”

I kick him over the edge and smile.

It really is a beautiful night.

Find Me.

“Lottie!”

“Where are you?”

I follow the loud squawks of the blackbirds; wings flutter up in the trees urging me on. I’m surrounded…and then I see my twin.

She’s covered in leaves and dirt, face frozen mid scream.

“Find me!”

I jolt awake.

Sweat drenched sheets cling to my body and I shudder.

I drag myself out of bed and head downstairs to the kitchen. The place is a mess, just like mum and dad.

A school photo of Lara lies on the counter…it’s the one they’re using for the posters.

There’s a loud thump.

I jump and knock the frame. Shards of glass splinter across the floor as I rush to the patio door.

A blackbird, dazed but alive is on the floor.

It takes flight and lands on our old swing set, it’s onyx eyes staring straight at me.

Just like my nightmare.
