Find Me -Friday Fictioneers Flash Fiction Photo Prompt!

Hello all!

I hope you are well and ready for some more Flash Fiction. As always, we are given our photo prompt by our wonderful Friday Fictioneer leader, Rochelle . The rules are to write a story in 100 words, using the photo prompt as inspiration. Apologies for missing last week, but it was show week for Spamalot! It was fantastic to be on stage again and I’m so proud to have been involved! To see exactly what I’ve been up to click here ! :)

So here is my attempt for this week. I hope you enjoy it.

Find Me.

“Lottie!”

“Where are you?”

I follow the loud squawks of the blackbirds; wings flutter up in the trees urging me on. I’m surrounded…and then I see my twin.

She’s covered in leaves and dirt, face frozen mid scream.

“Find me!”

I jolt awake.

Sweat drenched sheets cling to my body and I shudder.

I drag myself out of bed and head downstairs to the kitchen. The place is a mess, just like mum and dad.

A school photo of Lara lies on the counter…it’s the one they’re using for the posters.

There’s a loud thump.

I jump and knock the frame. Shards of glass splinter across the floor as I rush to the patio door.

A blackbird, dazed but alive is on the floor.

It takes flight and lands on our old swing set, it’s onyx eyes staring straight at me.

Just like my nightmare.

  1. What a wonderfully creepy story – love that image of the leaf-covered, screaming twin. a really vivid picture. So tragic – the search for a twin who may never return. Great spin on the prompt
